As a teacher and mentor, I'm always amazed by how small changes can make a big difference. Today, let's talk about something super simple that can have a huge impact on how you feel: drinking ice water.

When I travel, I've noticed something interesting. In the US, we love ice water. Restaurants automatically bring it to the table. But in many other countries, it's not so common. This made me think about what I already knew from studying ancient healing practices, like Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). What I rediscovered changed how I think about this everyday drink.

Imagine your energy – the energy you use for work, projects, and everything you do. Now, imagine that same energy in your stomach. TCM calls this "digestive fire." It's like a warm energy that helps you break down food and get the good stuff from it. Now, imagine pouring a bunch of ice water on that fire.

According to TCM, that's kind of what happens when you drink ice water, especially with meals. The cold can put out your digestive fire, making it harder to digest food properly. This can lead to things like bloating, upset stomach, and even feeling tired. For busy people, especially women who are juggling a lot, good digestion is super important for energy and focus.

Another ancient practice, Ayurveda from India, has similar ideas. It talks about agni, which also means digestive fire. Like TCM, Ayurveda says ice water can weaken agni, leading to slow digestion, a build-up of toxins, and not getting all the nutrients from your food. This can leave you feeling drained and sluggish.

So, next time you grab that ice water, think twice. Maybe try room temperature or warm water, especially when you eat. It's a small change that can make a real difference in how you digest your food and how much energy you have.

I'd love to hear what you think! Have you tried changing your water temperature? Did you notice any changes? Contact me – I always enjoy hearing from you.
